Uses
Enalapril is used in
the treatment of increased blood pressure , heart failure, heart attack and
diabetic kidney disease
Enalapril relaxes
blood vessels which lowers blood pressure and also reduces the workload of the
heart.
DOSE
Adult: PO HTN Initial: 5 mg at bedtime. Maintenance: 10-20 mg once daily up
to 40 mg in 2 divided doses. Heart
failure Initial: 2.5 mg/day.
Maintenance: 20 mg/day as single dose or in 2 divided doses, up to 40 mg/day in
2 divided doses. IV HTN 1.25 mg via slow inj or infusion over
at least 5 min, repeat 6 hrly if needed.
Administration - May be taken with or without food.
Contra indication- History of angioedema due to previous
treatment w/ ACE inhibitors. Hereditary or idiopathic angioedema. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions - Patients w/ bilateral renal artery stenosis or
a single kidney w/ unilateral renal artery stenosis, and w/ collagen vascular
disease; aortic or mitral valve stenosis. Pre-existing renal insufficiency.
Lactation.Monitoring
Parameters Monitor BP, and K levels. Correct
volume depletion prior to treatment.

Breathlessness,
Headache, Dizziness, Fainting, Blurred vision, Increased heart rate,
Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing),
Weakness, Allergic reaction, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Irregular heart rate,
Fatigue, Angina pectoris, Diarrhoea, Depression, Cough, Altered taste, Chest
pain
